How to Help Your Child Adjust to Glasses

Your child’s first pair of glasses can be an exciting and transformative experience. However, it’s more common for the adjustment to be a bit of a struggle at first. Here are some tips to help your child embrace and enjoy their new glasses.

Make Sure the Fit Is Right
If their glasses aren’t comfortable, your child won’t want to wear them. The frames should never touch their cheeks or eyelashes. If the glasses feel too tight or keep sliding down, they can easily be adjusted due to Roshambo frames' flexibility. Below are 3 helpful tips that can also improve the fit of your child's new glasses.

    • Ear Adjusters: Our kids' ear adjuster pieces help create a better fit on infants or toddlers growing into a larger size. These ear adjusters help tighten up the fit of the sunglasses arms, and slide up the arm of the sunglasses on each side. It should tuck behind your child’s ear if the arm is too long and the glasses are sliding off their face.
    • Head Strap:  will help keep glasses on your child’s face to prevent losing them or sliding off during playtime. The strap has hollow tips on each end, which slide right onto the end of the arm. It will tuck right behind your child’s ears and under the lower part of their head.
    • Find the perfect fit: Roshambo offers a FREE try-on kit, allowing you to test different styles and find the best fit for your child’s face.

See a Specialist
Start by finding an eyeglass shop that specializes in children's eyewear. They are typically better at fitting glasses to smaller faces. If your local eye doctor doesn't offer a wide variety of kid's frames a FREE Roshambo try-on kit will help you figure out the best match for your child.

Think Safety When Choosing Glasses
Choose glasses with shatterproof polycarbonate lenses, which block harmful UV rays and feature an anti-scratch coating. Opt for frames that are flexible and less likely to break, like Roshambo Eyewear

Life Happens: Be Prepared
When purchasing your prescription glasses Roshambo offers 3 levels of protection for your lenses (RAD, RADDER, RADDEST). If you purchased our RADDER or RADDEST level of protection you have a one-year scratch replacement warranty on your lenses and can contact us to claim your warranty.

Be Positive
Many kids feel concerned about how they'll look in glasses. A great way to boost their confidence is by letting them choose a frame they love. When your child wears their new glasses, be sure to compliment them and let them know they look fantastic. Highlight positive role models, both real and fictional, who wear glasses. If you wear glasses yourself, proudly wear them in front of your child as well.

Be Patient
It can take time for kids to adjust to new glasses, even if they've worn them before. Sometimes, new glasses can cause headaches or dizziness. Start by having your child wear them for a few hours a day, gradually increasing the time each day. Most kids take a few weeks to fully adjust. If the issue persists, your eye doctor may recommend eye drops to help relax your child’s eyes or adjust their prescription.

Get a Case
Glasses are bound to be dropped at some point, so having a case is essential to protect them from breakage and prevent the frames from bending. Teach your child the rule: "Glasses stay on your face or they go in your case." Roshambo includes a free case with every prescription order!

Keep It Clean
Glasses can quickly get scratched by dust or dirt, so keeping them clean is important for their longevity. To clean them, use dish soap and warm water or a cleaner specifically designed for glasses. Dry them with a microfiber cloth or a soft T-shirt. Avoid using paper towels, bath towels, or rough fabrics, as they can scratch the lenses.
